Heading Out

Busy day working some and packing...Getting ready for our mini trip to Denver.

Couple of Autism articles to share.  The latter one coincides nicely with NAETs, and from our experience, can also be the case in ADHD behaviour.

Mitochondrial Dysfunction, Vaccines And Autism: Are 1 in 50 Children at Risk?

How Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy's Son Recovered From Autism

Will be back Monday hopefully having found a house.

Wish us luck!

Crazy Week

...follows a crazy weekend.

I took Eric out for dinner on Friday night in celebration of his 35th birthday. We have some major decisions coming up so it was great to have some one on one time.

Saturday, I did a 12 hour crop with Ronalyn at our local scrapbook store.  It's been a while, but ...it was fun.  I'm really going to miss that lady..  My project was to do something with my Paper and Co Show 2007 photos and all the other "bumpf" with which I came back from Paris, you know...ticket stubs, brochures, postcards etc.  I decided to get messy on this one with paints, rubber stamps and plenty of glue.  I"m not done with it yet...more gluing and painting and stamping I think....I still have to add the words which is always my least favorite part but also the bit I like most about my scrapbook albums.

Sunday was little Malia's first birthday.  Has it really been a year since R. and I witnessed this little girls birth?  Time flies.

We also made the decision to fly back to Denver this coming weekend to look for houses.  We're about 6 weeks out from our departure and the housing market looks like it's picking up.  We'll leave Ella and Luke here who are just looking forward to one big sleepover.  Thanks R. and Lori!

I headed back to the gym on Monday, only to discover that niggling back pain which started the previous Wednesday still had not gone away.  With a long weekend ahead I've decided to take this week off, which I'm bummed about having got back into the routine, but there is really no point in injuring myself.  The upside of course is more time to get some deadlines completed and checked off my list.

Random

Friday already?  Where did the week go?

1.  Ive been working out in the mornings.  It's been 4 weeks and now 4 lbs heavier in muscle weight it's cool to begin seeing my body begin to tone and change.

2.  I've been cooking.  Yes!  You heard me right, and I have been enjoying it.  It's been fun to look up a new recipe on line. As we beginning to eat our way through what's left in the pantry I came across some green lentils and made the Indian Style Green Lentil Curry here.  It looked a bit dry to me so I added some coconut milk..yummy!  Will make again and perhaps have a bash at some homemade mango chutney (after we move of course :)

3.  I've been working, and at twice the capacity as I usually so that I can still have new goodies to share with you all while I'm in transit.  Here's a sneak peek of one of my new products coming to the store on Sunday.

4.  I've been faffing around with house stuff.  We've just got our pre-approval letter through with perhaps the view of flying to Denver next weekend to look at some properties.

5. I learned why people find comfort in food.  In short:

Serotonin is the self produced chemical in our bodies that help us maintain that all important "happy feeling". What I didn't know is that it is located predominantly in our guts. I always thought is was in the brain but the core of emotion is located in the gut hence " a gut feeling" and "feeling sick to your stomach" or "having butterflies". I learned yesterday than when you stifle emotion it messes up the bodies way of healing itself. Remember how relaxed and good you feel after a good cry? The release of serotonin causes that feel good feeling. When you stifle emotions the body is unable to release the serotonin so our bodies make us think we need to eat to allow that partial let down that is not fulfilling but compels us to do it anyway. Hence emotional eating.

Simply fascinating, but totally makes sense.

6.  In honour of Earth Day, and because it's another one of those too good to be true deals, we decided to try this.  Just the thought of never having to lug laundry detergent from the store again was enough to risk giving it a go, but it seriously works!

7.  I completed a School Days photobook for Ella.

8.  I've been enjoying watching a little T.V as new shows start to make their way back.

9.  I've been planning for a 12 hour crop tomorrow with Ronalyn.  I'm planning on doing a little mini book of my teaching gig in Versailles last year.

10. Taking Eric out for dinner to Sullivan's in celebration on his birthday on Sunday.

All in all it has been a busy week.

Goodbyes

The stats again: 6 countries, 10 schools, 26 homes.

I couldn't even begin to tot up the number of friends I've said goodbye to over the past 33 years.  This weekend we said "goodbye' to The Smiths.  The bad news is that I will miss Melissa.  Though we did not speak on a daily basis she I have valued her friendship over the past 2 years.  The good news?

The good news is that I think she is one of the few friends I have said good bye to who has vowed to stay in touch and probably will.  That makes me happy in the face of all the sadness.

It was also a reminder that time is marching on and we will be leaving Alaska in less than 2 months.

Feeling Inspired

Img_0071_2

Getting to the gym each day is MY time.  I am able to decompress, gain in strength and stamina and literally get my blood pumping for the rest of the day, creating a better mind and body.  But one of the smaller advantages is to catch a bit of morning TV.  I'm not one for TV at the best of times, but just sometimes, I catch a snippet of something that interests and inspires me:

1. Go Green Money Saving Tips on Live with Regis and Kelly.  Super info!

2. The Last Lecture by Professor Pausch, who is dying of pancreatic cancer.  Amazing story of a man who is making the most of his last month and making a difference in the lives of others.  I was blown away by his attitude about life and illness and, not to trivialize any part of his story, he reminded me of just why I am so passionate about scrapbooking.

3. Tuesday was also the National Day of Hope which immediately caught my interest as "hope" is my word for this year.  I caught Kathy Lee Gifford on Today talking about the rising child abuse stats in the US as America's "National Disgrace".  Apart from broadening my horizons in what this organization does and has done in the past, I gained a new found respect for this lady.

4.  Crafting with Rosie O'Donnell and her new book which advocates switching off the TV to spend time, connect and build memories with your children.

As you can see I am a channel flipper :)

So in spite of the incessant winter here in Alaska....This was my view as I slipped and slid through Anchorage yesterday:

There is so much inspiration out there.

Tribute

FINALLY.....I am allowed to "spill the beans"...

This is seriously cool stuff.

Remember this?

All that hard work has now come to fruition in the Tribute PhotoBook now available at Shutterfly.

It's one of two new books, the other being School Days by Tiffany Tillman, launched in partnership with CK Media.

You can see my book here.

Heading off to the gym and getting Luke into Daycare for the day but will revisit the experience later...
