Today kicks off the countdown to Christmas, and while everyone else seems to be starting their December Daily, I know that I personally cannot commit to such an intense project.
I'm going to do something a little different.
The next few weeks I'll be easing into the season. Luke started his advent calendar this morning and we have yet to get the tree up from the basement and the halls decked. I kind of want to just enjoy these little events and capture photos as and when the inspiration strikes.
I'm also eagerly awaiting Katrina Kennedy's Capture Your Holidays through the lens class which begins on December 6th, 2011. You still have a few more days to sign up before the Sunday December 4, 2011 midnight deadline. I take very few classes but this is one I am committed to. It's been a while since I have focussed on my photography and taken the time to brush up on my skills.
I'll be using the photos I take during this class to populate The Holiday Album No. 1 and will be pacing myself much like I did with Project 2011 by tackling a double page spread every week.
I'll spend the first two weeks of this month learning new photo techniques via Katrina's class, gathering photos and stories I want to include in the album. I'm generally very low-tech when it comes down to story-telling and write lists on the back of printed paper that would otherwise go into the recycle bin. The list sits on my desk and I add to it as new stories or ideas come my way. I always have a little stack of them at any given time available as immediate StoryStarters.
In the latter half of this month, I'll begin grouping these stories and photos according to themes and slowly embark on the page creation process checking off all the memorable parts of the holiday season as I go. I will be sharing my process here with weekly blog posts that include useful information and tips on both the process and techniques used in each spread, should you choose to follow along and create your own un-daily Holiday Album?
I anticipate the blog posts to begin mid December and run through January into the first few weeks of February 2012. Basicall they'll continue until I have completed all the pages in this this 20 page album. This will hopefully allow us to enjoy Christmas now and focus on album creating in the quieter months after Christmas.
